Intriguing concept + multimedia experience!
This show has a lot going for it - it’s an intriguing concept of witnessing two souls navigating “how to escape hell” by living through/playing out the experiences of ancient myths. There are two things that really stood out for me in this. First is the “Dramaturgy on Demand” interactiveness throughout the show where anyone in the audience could flash the light on their phone at the stage manager, who then acknowledges and cues it by flashing their light back at you/the tech booth any time in the show to learn more about what myth may be referenced during a scene (up to a total of 3 times). Brilliant! I wish I could’ve seen all of the Dramaturgy on Demand snippets that also belonged to this show. Second, I loved the multimedia usage of the mounted monitor in center stage. The way video was thoughtfully shot to transition between “landscape” to “portrait” and to choreograph that transition with physically tilting the monitor on stage to the proper corresponding orientation. Chefs kiss, I LOVED that. This was a prime example of how MNFringe is an excellent incubator space to test out intriguing concepts, gather insight from generous love audiences, and continue to workshop devised pieces with tons of potential like this one. Overall, excellent dramaturgy & multimedia concepts along with Mark’s storytelling physicality and Sarah’s commanding vocality made this a very satisfying show to experience.
