A Big Fish Story
Usually, I'm not a fan of spoofs which all too often feel like they're just riding the coat tails of a major franchise for easy ticket sales, full of cliches and fan service. Not this one. I was pleasantly surprised to see most of the script was original with only a few key scenes lifted from the original (I almost died when Matt Saxe appears with a tiny chalkboard to scrape his fingers down). The characters and relationships were completely new and interesting. The Minnesota accent was featured but wasn't endlessly mined for laughs. The focus was more on the relationships and sacrifices each character made. Oh, and the big fish. It was big, beautiful, and one of the best props I've ever seen.
