Performance Schedule/Scouting Reports
(Note: These Improv group descriptions were written to resemble "scouting reports" that you'd find for professional sports teams, but most of the groups have little or nothing to do with the Wide World of Sports.)
Friday, August 1st 10:00PM
· BVTT MVNCH (Rachel Buhman, Laura Hild, Peter Zimmerman): There's no "i" in Team and no "you" in BVTT MVCNH: this trio questions the reality of Improv and will clearly break free of the dimensions of Ping Prov's clearly defined rules system. They could receive an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for their name, which BVTT MVNCH will debate alongside the meaning of life.
· Soap-Prov (Jex Arzayus, Alexis Camille, Robbie Darling, Wesley Erickson, Laura Hild, Simone LeClaire, Danielle Lynch, Robby Miller): The Twin Cities' steamiest, schemiest soap opera! Though typically on daytime television after Days Of Our Lives, Soap-Prov will have to adjust to a 10PM start time. Early reports indicate there's been a lot of drama in the locker-room: deception, betrayal, and numerous evil twins.
· Goof Goof (Liv Amrami, Phillip Schramm): Goof Goof goof; goof goofgoof goof. Goof goof goof goofgoof goof goof. "Goofgoof goof goof Honus Wagner," goof goof goof goof goof goof.
Saturday, August 2nd 2:30PM
· Too Bad We Don’t Vibe (Holly Brooks, Marika Sullivan): Twin Cities' improv is typically built upon trust and friendship but "Too Bad We Don't Vibe" breaks the mold by having a profound distrust for one another. Much like the early '00s Lakers or the rock band Oasis, this duo is able to succeed despite their fundamental differences.
· Diesel-Powered Bees (Justin Johnson, Linc Owens): History is written by the victors but the Diesel-Powered Bees' make sure that every single character, every seed in the tournament, gets their time in the sun. There's more to this Cinderella Story than just Cinderella, what about the pumpkin?
· Sympathetic Magic (Julie Censullo, Mahmoud Hakima, Will Schroeder): Bases loaded, bottom of the ninth: one of the bases has nothing to lose, another is a lovesick poet, and another is building a time machine. Sympathetic Magic explores mystical worlds where objects experience the absurdities of life and the impossible becomes...possible!
Tuesday, August 5th 5:30PM
· ROLLY (Destiny Davison, Ross Flores): Two talented athletes who found success in solo endeavors join forces as a tandem! In the offseason they host "The Honey Jar" in St. Paul: Improv that's live & collaborative at Hive Collaborative.
· Tracktastic! With Bret (Bret Meyer, Katie Knepler, Justine Myers): "Clear eyes, full hearts, Hot Wheels." More action than 500 Indy 500s, with a pit crew that never runs out of gas, your mind will race in this Imagination Demolition Derby that has anything but a one-track mind!
· Waiting for… Oh No, Godot! (Adam Mellerup, Michael Rogers): Inspired by Beckett...the playwright, not the baseball card maunfacturer. Some teams are just one piece away from championship contention--will patience pay off for bedraggled acquaintances Vladimir and Estragon or will they be doomed to "wait until next year"?
Friday, August 8th 8:30PM
· Slumber Party (Steph Callaghan, McIntyre Godwin, Sarah Halverson): Some franchises only have fun during the victory parade of a championship season, when banners are raised and champagne is un-corked. But for Slumber Party, every day--every moment--is a cause for celebration!
· Comfort Zone (Ryan Klima, Janelle Kloth): The only thing Ryan and Janelle have in common is that they both played basketball in high school. Ryan was all hustle and rebounds while Janelle was a flashy guard with an eye towards theater. Neither were afraid to hit the "Outside J."
· Very Good Improv (Laura Berger, Steph Callaghan, Chris Rodriguez): Bill Russell both played and coached for the Boston Celtics in 1968-69, winning two NBA Championships. Similarly, the coaches of the community-minded Improv school "Very Good" excel on both sides of the sidelines. But unlike sports, Improv can't be drawn up with X's and O's on a chalkboard--it takes the entire alphabet.
Sunday August 10th 7:00PM
· Primal Delusions (Angelina Allen, Jamie Bonczyk, Kate Button, Cicely Laing, Mary Ruebel): Since there's been mankind there's been delusion: on the stellar Southern surface, fantasy figure skates with reality. Quirky sequins--err sequences entertwine with stories of strong women supporting one another.
· Doubtless (Robbie Darling, Lane Flaten): "Darling Flaten" is not the name of a 1920's boxer, it's long-running Improv duo Doubtless--First meeting in marching band for NDSU (Go Bison), their sets are filled with Pomp AND Circumstance. Doubt is commonplace in sports, especially Minnesota sports, but not here!
· PHXDC (Meredith Howell, Karyn Wilson): Phoenix! Washington DC! The Eastern Conference and Western Conference collide in this continent-spanning connection that transcends area codes and time zones! (Fun Fact: Bradley Beal is one of the few NBA players to play for both cities)
