Very talented guy but this didn’t work for me.

What this guy did was incredibly tough…he took the full time telling interwoven stories with incredible energy and poise. I recognize the amazing talent that takes, even if you’ve got a script…he didn’t trip over words or get lost. Amazing. But the back end was definitely a little disappointing in terms of the story content…it got quite repetitious. I didn’t hate it, but it wasn’t one of the top shows for me based on the content. But I’m impressed at his ability to deliver it.

Company: Kara Millerhagen
Show: Turn Your Suck into Suckcess!
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

A mashup of two things I don’t like that worked!

I don’t like corporate rah rah events at all, and I’m not a fan of Broadway musicals generally. But this was a creative combination of the most fun things of those two. The actress had a great voice and the premise was really clever, as was the execution. Definitely one of my favorite fringe shows this year!

Company: Broom Vroom Street Blartists
Show: Paul Blart 3: Blart of Darkness
Venue: Strike Theater

The best acting I’ve seen this year at Fringe!

I had never seen Paul Blart and worried that maybe I wouldn’t get some of the jokes. But rest assured, even if you haven’t seen them you’ll be fine. The actors really owned their characters. Especially the guy who played Ferocious the King of the Marauders. But you could also tell they were having a little fun with it and “in on the joke” The story was engaging with sufficient pop culture references to amuse.

Company: Fearless Comedy Productions
Show: A Murder on the Great Grimpen Mire Express
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Another good offering

I saw John Wick by Tim Wick last year and was so enthralled that I went and watched all the John Wick movies in the last year. So I was glad we happened on another one from him. This was well written and solidly acted. Drawing from all of those mysteries like Hercule Poirot and Sherlock Holmes, although I’ve never read any of them and still enjoyed it.

Company: Deft Pictures
Show: Secrets Under the Christmas Tree: A Deedee Wallaby Mystery
Venue: Open Eye Theatre

Funny show Worth your time.

This made me laugh at various times. I thought it was well thought out. It seemed a little formulaic at first, but there were some twists. Very enjoyable. Would recommend.
