Show: the statue of liberty is nora in a doll's house by henrik ibsen

A feat of strength
A Doll's House was new to me, never read it, never saw the play. What I know of the story, "the statue of liberty..." tells that story in its own way. The use of dolls and the mannequin were another point of view. The feat is strength is how long Nora had to hold that torch both before the play while we were getting seated and then during the play.

Progress and not in 100 years
This felt a little preachy to me. Since I agree with what was being "preached", that wasn't a problem. I am impressed that people (men) were willing to elect female representatives a few short years after women won the right to vote. Hannah's story of inclusion, accommodation, and expanding horizons in her classroom touched me. Progress: Minnesota will soon have our first female governor and may send the first Native female to the US Senate. Not: I am frustrated that 100 years we still don't have an equal rights amendment. It is frustrating that it took so long for free breakfast and lunch in schools, for all students to be able to concentrate on their school work. The Frog Brigade was a fun element as were the guest legislators.

Dance and story
I go to Gabriel Mata's show whenever he gets a slot in Minnesota Fringe. Gabriel's dance tells a story that I can follow. The program notes helped with this one. The dancers did so many costume changes. So much masking and unmasking to live in our society and to be true to themselves. I always come away seeing things with a new perspective.
