Paco Erhard
Creator and Performer
Paco Erhard is Germany’s global comedian and the world's comedy expert on Germany and the German psyche. A staple performer at the world’s biggest comedy festivals, Paco has appeared on BBC, CBC, ABC, ARD, and many other TV & radio stations in Australia, Canada, England, Scotland, New Zealand, Ireland, and Germany. Born in Munich as Frank Erhard Hübener, the great-grandson of a high-ranking German politician (post-war, don’t worry!) grew up in nine different regions of Germany, experiencing his country’s inner cultural differences from an early life, before living in the USA, Italy, Spain, the UK, and spending long stretches of time in Australia and Canada. Considered “one of the best cultural comedians in the world” (Rip It Up, Australia), Paco has won the Orlando Fringe Patrons’ Pick Award and the New Producer of the Year Award in 2022, the 2022 San Diego Fringe Critics Pick Award, the Best Comedy Award at Victoria Fringe in 2019, and Best of Fest at Vancouver Fringe 2018, among others. With his smart cultural comedy he has helped organizations such as BMW, Ford, UNESCO, Mensa, the Goethe-Institut, the German-American Chamber of Commerce, the World Taxpayers Association, and German cultural centers all over the world.

5-Step Guide to Being German is the stand-up show all about Germany that has had the world rolling in the aisles laughing since 2011. Originally written for the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, it has since been constantly honed, improved, and adapted to different countries. It has been a huge success in the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Malaysia, and even in such strange, exotic places as Bavaria. If you like 60 minutes of constant belly laughs mixed with some real historical, cultural, and psychological insight, then this is the show for you... and for all your German friends. And let's be honest, you have at least 7 or 8 German friends — it's Minnesota! 😊

Got German ancestry?

Then come laugh your socks off and finally understand why your Oma Hilda was the way she was... and maybe also why you are the way you are. Experience hysterical dilemmas on the Autobahn, learn the truth about lederhosen, and find out how "Germans have no sense of humor" is both true and not true at all.

You're not German at all?

You'll still love the show. Especially when you bring some German friends, so you can nudge them incessantly and say "that's so you!" Not only will you understand them better, you may just understand your American psyche better too. It's a show that makes Germans go "that's so true!!" and makes non-Germans go: "Oh that's why!" Or rather: they would, if they weren't busy doubling over laughing.
