Workshop Show in Need of Work

While I agree with the message (what I heard of it from the second row), this show suffered in its space, though might be well received in a more intimate venue. As previously mentioned, it was frequently hard to hear the performer over the music being played, especially when faced away from the audience. As an advertisement for the glow-in-the-dark tools used, I'd give it a 3, as it did showcase some interesting effects they could create, but even then it was often a mess or unclear in intent. Definitely Fringe, definitely a show in its infancy.

Definitely Fringe (in the best possible way)

I've been to 3 shows this year, and tomorrow, I'll attend one more. All of them at the Southern, all glow-in-the-dark theatre, all The Falsehood. Sometimes, it's interesting to stick around and see what happens (see also: support an artist and friend). Opening night was a project becoming: the glowing elements were interesting but sometimes hard to see, the sound balance was off, and it felt very much like a practice run. If I'd reviewed it then, I'd have rated that first night a 3 despite the hiccups --mostly for the audacity of what was being attempted from a technical perspective. Tonight, it came together: the glow displays were vivid and more legible, there was breathing room for narrative between songs, and throughout, I was engaged by the piece -- even during a quick lights-up for troubleshooting. The show has also added a new program for those who attend, which was helpful pre-show context. To expect conceptual art-as-theatre without some degree of roughness seems anachronistic: in a world of identically-extruded everything, there's something to be said for embracing the analog, the mess, and the creative synesthesia that sheds light, quite literally, on the crucial importance of raising a common voice in defense of democracy, equity, and consent. This show is definitely fringe - and definitely one worth seeing in its infancy (Sunday's the last show - hope to see you there!).

Hard to see and hear

With the lights out, the glow in the dark didn't show up well enough to see the action. The audio was hard to hear unless he spoke into the mic. It was a stream of consciousness dialogue that I couldn't follow.
