I love Jeannie and getting to see them tell this story was so amazing! It was EXTREMELY FUNNY and made me tear up in the same sentence! Definitely a MUST see this 2024 fringe season. You will regret missing out!!!

We laughed, we cried, it was a really fun experience! There was an abundance of honesty that pulls you into the show. We really enjoyed the transitions putting on makeup between the bits!

I knew The Other Jeannie Retelle was a star the first time I saw her perform at Lush in 2018 - a real deal, bonafide, hilarious, one-of-a-kind star - and I knew I'd follow her anywhere! And I feel so lucky to have seen this show. It’s a vulnerable, wonderful, personal love letter to the family that made her and I will think of this show often and fondly. Parts of it will stay with me always. Thank you for sharing this and so wonderfully.

Touching, laugh out loud tribute to mother & child

The Other Jeannie Retelle gives you all you want out of a fabulous drag show--lip syncs, costume changes, camp references--plus personal stories from and about both mother and child. This show is a loving tribute to a mother (the original Jeannie), but it is also a lovely tribute to the self, reminding the audience of the power of who we come from to help us become who we are.

It all started with toast

The Other Jeannie Retelle delivers an insightful recollection of her life through the perspectives of her mother, herself, and a little boy dressed in a toast costume. Hilarious and heartwarming!

The show is beautifully written by Spencer and Amie, filled with a lot of witty jokes, depth, and parts that tug at your heartstrings. Spencer is one hell of a performer and drag queen. It’s original, hilarious, & touching. Go see it!

Must see

This is a beautiful, touching journey that we have the pleasure of going on. The mix of audio/visual/ lip syncing creates a fantastic balance between camp and a touching love letter. Run to this show!!!

I laughed, I cried

The voice over stories from Spencer’s mom and the photographs literally made me cry! The pacing was so strong, the GRWM vibes of doing make up while storytelling, the lip syncs, all so good and fun

This show is a beautiful journey of self-discovery using a mixture of narrative, hilarious snippets from the OG Jeannie Retelle, and of course drag. You’ll go from laughing to crying… and think how lucky we all are to have the gift that is the other Jeannie Retelle and gratitude to their family for creating the most perfect weirdo.

Storytelling Masterpiece

Fun drag has never had a better companion than with the excellent storytelling that this show brought to the table. The use of recordings and photos is something that consistently warmed my heart and I found myself on the verge of proud tears almost immediately. Bring tissues and some time to call the loved ones in your life afterwards. Brava!

Absolutely wonderful!

Two masters of storytelling have come together to create this wonderfully heartfelt look into the origin story of one of the most fantastic drag queens in Minneapolis. The drag-storytelling combo here is phenomenal and complement each other so well. It is absolutely hilarious throughout, but also carries an important message about identity, and the influence that family plays in the development of one’s identity. Really can’t say enough good things about this show or recommend it highly enough. Do not miss it!

A Return to Where it All Started

A charming and heartfelt return to the Theatre where The Other Jeannie Retelle began. This show really ties together lively storytelling with heartwarming moments of their journey becoming TOJR. I think we all need B.J.E(Big Jeannie Energy) in our lives and this show has it.

Mommy Dearest but NO hangers!!

This show was delightful!! A fantastic combination of in person story telling, recorded primary source interview, slides show, and drag performance. It's a feel good show about how 'Spencer David Retelle' discovered his purpose as a story "reteller" while becoming her best self as an incarnation of her supportive hilarious mother in the character "The Other Jeannie Retelle!" Life is tough, confusing, and can throw a million and one curve balls, but this performer has found thier ROCK and thier voice. It's laugh out loud and touching at the same time. Go see this show!!

Really excellent show

This show was very well put together and perfectly executed. It was a really genuine and personal story that mixed audio clips, performance numbers, and narration. This show really enraptures the audience and makes you want to hear more of the wonderful stories it tells.

The Other Jeannie Retelle’s wit and natural stage presence was delightfully woven in with storytelling from her biological mother, Jeannie Retelle. Family photo montages, multiple costume changes, and drag numbers help illustrate the beautiful story of The Other Jeannie’s relationship with her mother, Jeannie. The love and support they have for each other shone through the whole time and brought tears to my eyes. That experience of being unconditionally loved by a parent is something so few queer people are fortunate to have. I was touched and I loved it. Beautiful job!

Hilarious & heartfelt

This is a must-see, one-of-a-kind show. The Other Jeannie’s origin story comes to life through an incredible mixed media collage of photos, audio, and live performance. The Other Jeannie will have you laughing, crying, clapping, and dancing in your seat.

The audio clips with the mother were great. The storytelling parts with Spencer weren't always as effective as they were still referencing their script a lot.

The Grand Canyon of Drag

As a fan of "The Other Jeannie Retelle" I knew this show was gonna be hilarious, but what really warmed my heart were the moments of vulnerability in story telling of young Spencer discovering his art and sexuality. Just like that young gay (not gay?) swimmer, I just can't get enough of this Retelle.

An absolute must see! I was not ready to have my face hurt so much after leaving this show because as per usual, The Other Jeannie Retelle , makes you not stop smiling or laughing!! An amazingly hilarious coming out story!!!

I took my parents to this show…

I had the pleasure of attending a show hosted by an incredibly talented drag queen. The performance was centered around the touching and heartfelt story of her momma. Throughout the evening, she masterfully combined humor, emotion, and stunning visuals to bring her story to life. Her ability to connect with the audience was truly remarkable. The way she shared personal anecdotes and experiences about her momma created an intimate atmosphere, making everyone feel like they were part of her journey. Her charisma and stage presence were unmatched, and every moment was filled with laughter, tears, and applause. What truly stood out was her genuine passion and love for her momma, which shone through every aspect of the performance. It was a beautiful tribute that left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of watching.

Great Storytelling

This show was heartwarming and very funny! The intergenerational pieces were beautiful and it was fun watching the makeup routine as he told his stories. The storytelling was strong! The story itself, strong. The actual drag performances and end result makeup were lackluster. This artist was engaging and entertaining but the actual talent for drag didn't show through very strongly.

Personal and profound!!

Beautiful storytelling done with charming audio clips and visuals, the Other Jeannie Retelle is so charismatic it’s impossible not to laugh, she’s a natural onstage. The interweaving between stories and drag numbers is so fluid and keeps the energy up. It’s a love letter to drag and to mothers that has something for everybody.

This show is definitely a must see! Super fun and creative beyond words. The flow of the show was perfect and made you feel all the feels. Unbelievably good storytelling that perfected such a personal unique touch. The Other Jeannie Retelle no words can really explain how incredible you are!!!

I knew it was going to be good, but Dayuuum

The Other Jeannie Retelle exquisitely mixed recordings, drag performances, and storytelling to create this funny and heartfelt show that had me feeling warm and gooey by the time I left. It was a coming-to-self story that was inspiring, authentic, but most of all, well written! The script was beautiful! I'd watch this show again (and again), and I'd also read it in written form. The entire production was well-crafted, entertaining, and meaningful. The main theme here is love. <3

Truly Incredible

I've always loved seeing The Other Jeannie Retelle perform. I've been drawn to her funny, entertaining, and creative approach to drag and improv. However, this is the first time that I've seen her tackle a show that is quite heartfelt and personal. I walked away having laughed (as expected) but I was surprised to say that I also was quite touched by her story, her mother's story, and their connection. Highly recommend for anyone with a mother! :)
