A Millennial Romp from a VERY Talented Individual

This show was a “Whoa!” from the get-go. I had a feeling it was going to be a match made in Heaven just hearing the house music. From Hannah Montana, to Bieber, to High School Musical, to Harry Potter, to Hugh Laurie references… Janelle has my heart. I don’t know what “it” factor is, but Janelle has it! Will keep an eye on her for future shows… Amos Diggory quites could be just around the corner. Minneapolis is losing a gem to Chicago!

Pop Culture Princess!

Janelle is a performer! This show is filled with a lot of pop culture references that shaped her, not only as a performer but as a person. As any human being in the 20th century, especially for a millennial, it’s a very relatable show. Also makes you reflect on how pop culture has shaped yourself. The show is everything from dancing to improv comedy. It is fun and high energy! Do not be afraid to call and respond as there are many moments. I also found myself wanting to get up and dance.

Janelle and Ryan are charming fun!

Janelle is so lovable and her and Ryan have amazing chemistry together. I love how much Janelle loves what she loves and that’s fun to watch. Come for the pop culture, stay for the pop culture!

A bit of improv fun

As a baby boomer, I got most of the pop culture references which I'm proud of. The improv was great, a crazy flow of consciousness. The show is absolutely worth seeing. Any show that flows without a true script is taking a big chance. It had some very awkward moments but overall Janelle rocked the crowd and left herself out there, vulnerable, funny and worth seeing

A Joyful Love Letter to Pop Culture

A joyful love letter to pop culture! Janelle really gives 100% at all times on stage, while having a great time. And it is infectious! Also Ryan does an excellent job as the charming comedic counterpart. I’m a fan of anything these two do together!

Truth in Advertising.

Yes, Janelle talks really fast. She knows it, she want's you to know it. No, she's not sorry. She embraces it. Janelle is an encyclopedia in pop culture, connecting dots you couldn't possibly even know existed. With more energy than someone half her age should have, she tells of how she went from being a normal child to having a moment of incitement, where she became a performer, and had something to say. Unlike most solo shows (her partner in crime, Ryan Klima, lends comic support), Janelle is not fractured, she merely found herself, and wants to share it with you.

Funny, wacky, and touching!

Man, Janelle is a powerhouse! This show is funny, touching, and downright impressive! Janelle had created a wonderful meditation on pop culture and how it creates meaning, purpose, and inspiration in people's daily lives, and in her life specifically. Go see this show! Also, Ryan is hilarious.

Funny and warm one-woman show

What a wonderful show! You know how people will describe movies like "Almost Famous" as a love letter to rock and roll or "Cinema Paradiso" is a love letter to movies? This show is a love letter to pop culture through the star's unique perspective. Anyone who has felt moved by a piece of pop culture will identify with the joy and sincerity of Janelle's 45-minute performance. Through the music, movies, TV dance, comedy and more that have meant something to her, she reminds us of the things that have found permanent spots in our hearts -- and how grateful we are to have them. And in her unabashed expression of love for these things, she creates and invites us into our very own piece of culture. I came into this show as a friend of Janelle, but I promise you, my enthusiasm for this show is for its sincerity and purity of vision. Shows like this are what Fringe is for!

Janelle is Fast

Fast and fun. Liked the mix of straight improv with dance and stories. And the side kick was as fast and funny and beautiful as Janelle, well at least two of those. Even costume changes! Which could have been upped a level. See the show.

Warm and Joyful Show.

A lovely flow consciousness from a highly talented perform. Talk Fast was a performer pulling the curtain back for a glimpse of their inner life; it was an enjoyable time that those of us who grew up under the Internet firehouse of pop-culture can really appreciate! Janelle is, as always, a quietly magnetic performer with a wonderful combination of electricity and physical grace; informing that with heat lightening energy of her brain was an enjoyable hour, and a wonderful first fringe show for the reviewer.

A fantastic breath of fresh air

If you are looking for a positive, fun spirited show that will leave you feeling joyful and happy try this on for size.

This show is pure fun. Janelle and her co-host are a fun combo. I liked the k-pop dance bit, and I am not familiar with k-pop. High energy with moments of nice story telling. Perfect if you are tired and need to be energized!

Fun Pop Culture Showcase

Light-hearted talk show with the host sharing her many interests. I liked Janelle’s interactions with the audience and the dances. Didn’t understand some of the references but Janelle’s enthusiasm was charming.

A Nice Show

This is a bit of dance, music, audience participation and humor offered by an energetic set of performers. Worth being in your schedule. And just a personal note: as a class of '75, member out of Macalester, I can assure you we are incapable of displaying snottiness as suggested by a cat member! Upbeat show.

Pop Culture with Pride

The whole time I was enamored with Janelle’s unabashed confidence and energy sharing the things she loves. As someone whose life has also been inextricably tied to and shaped by pop culture, I could connect to a lot of this. Unlike Janelle, my anxiety has led to a lot of diluting and hiding of my interests over time so it was genuinely inspiring to see someone so openly love pop culture and motivate the audience to do so without shame. It’s hard to speak how someone with less ties to pop culture might experience this, but I at the very least think one would leave with a greater sense of appreciation for those who do. An extra push for anyone to see that also fell through the High School Musical to Kpop Stan pipeline. I had a great time!

Lacking cohesion

This show opened to an audience full of folks who clearly know the performer, and while it's great to see so much support, it also seemed that the show was written for those people and those people only. I would describe the format of the show as more like a stand up routine than a variety show - one with a number of inside jokes that left me feeling excluded. The tech elements were more distracting than they were supportive of the narrative (although I like K-pop, I found myself watching the videos more than the performer). Overall, the performer spoke clearly and the individual monologues were easy enough to follow, but the show as a whole lacked cohesion.

fast, scattered, fun

I was most impressed with Janelle's ability to thrust herself out on the stage without embarrassment while doing some rather energetic dance moves and rapid fire connection-making. The show isn't very unified, and the references might work best with the Millennial generation, but it gave us some good chuckles.

This was truly, authentically Janelle, and it was so much fun! I enjoyed her storytelling, moments as a host and with the audience, and her dance moves. Also, her hilarious co-host/sidekick Ryan. Great show!
