Yo-Ho-Hum: A Pirate's Midlife Crisis

By Hey Rube!

Written by Marcus Anthony

Stede Bonnet was a real life Don Quixote who really did think reading about Pirates qualified him to become one. Things go downhill from there. This is the unauthorized story of his hilarious and tragic life.

Cast and Crew
Joshua English Scrimshaw
Stede Bonnet
Joshua English Scrimshaw is the co-founder of the Twin Cities-based all-ages theater company Comedy Suitcase and co-host of the weekly old-time radio podcast and performance group, The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society. Joshua has been called "a clever and inventive voice in Twin Cities comedy theater" by The Star Tribune, and "a modern day Buster Keaton" by mnartists.org. When he’s not performing, podcasting, or digging up fifteen-year-old pull quotes to use in his bio, Joshua runs multiple book clubs and tends to the endless and adorable needs of his dogs, cats, rabbit, guinea pig and ball python.
Natalie Rae Wass
Tristram Shanty
Natalie Rae Wass loves sharing the stage with admired friends and in this show there are a couple she's never shared a scene with before, exciting! Say hi when you see her out and about catching shows in most every time slot she isn't performing in (if previous years are anything to go by!). She's been seen in shows by Ben San Del, Unfold the Sky, Green T Productions, the Ministry for Cultural Warfare, the Old Log Theater, Bedlam Productions and many more - including 2 with Hey Rube! Productions, 2017's 'Be Your Selfie' and 2021's Golden Lanyard Artist Award winning 'Orzel Rising'. Oh yeah - and that one time she wrote produced and starred in the fifth best selling show of the 2013 MN Fringe Festival 'Fashion Risk or the Accidental Nudist'. She'd love to talk to you about mascot opportunities (for you or her) around town and also performs bubble parties and does a lot of elfing around the holiday season when not on stage or in the audience of a theater. Catch her in 'Dream of Me' with Team Rand-McKay in this same festival and venue!
Madhu Bangalore
Blackbeard, the Pirate
Madhu (he/him) has been co-directing and acting with SAATH - South Asian Arts & Theater House (previously known as Bollywood Dance Scene) for the past several years. These shows have been the top selling shows at MN Fringe 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2022. He has also performed with Sheep Theater, Pangea World Theater, Exposed Brick Theater, Waterfront Productions and several other production houses in the Twin Cities. He is the founding member of DesiProv – An all South Asian improv comedy group and performs improv with several other groups at HUGE Improv Theater. He is thrilled to be working with Hey Rube! for the first time!
MJ Johnson
Blackstash, The Viceroy, and more!
MJ Johnson is a World Beard and Moustache Champion and has appeared on ESPN, The Steve Harvey Show, Live with Kelly and Ryan, and holds three Guinness World Records. Loves pirate lingo.
Kyra Scanlan Duzynski
Powder Monkey, Mary Bonnet, and more!
Kyra Scanlan Duzynski is a lifelong dancer and musician. She has performed with The Phipps Dance Theater since 2011 and has also choreographed contemporary dance pieces for local ensembles. Her past performances in the Minnesota Fringe Festival include: Orzel Rising (2022), Behemoth (2023), and The Definition of Loss (2023). As the youngest child in her family, Kyra has always had a proclivity for performing. While she still enjoys doing character bits at the supper table and prancing around the living room, she is grateful to the Fringe for providing her with a broader audience.
Kirsten Stephens
The Doctor, The Governor, and more!
Kirsten is a Twin Cities-based mime and physical theatre artist, a Navy Reserve officer, a flying trapeze catcher, and a huge Captain Marvel fan. This is her 4th show working with Marcus and Hey Rube! Productions as movement director, including the award-winning Orzel Rising. This time she’s on stage herself because PIRATES! Kirsten graduated from L’Ecole Internationale de Mimodrame de Marcel Marceau in Paris, France and after touring with some French guys in a VW bus, she returned to the US and moved to Minneapolis where she teamed up with Dean Hatton, a partnership which produced several hit MN Fringe shows. Kirsten has toured nationally as a solo performer and collaborations such as Elements, a physical theatre collaboration in Los Angeles. These days you can often find her hanging upside down and catching people in mid-air at Twin Cities Trapeze, but she hasn’t forgotten her roots in silent theatre.
Barlow Kimball
Cabin Boy
My name is Barlow, and this my first fringe show performance. I have been involved in shows at my mom’s Trapeze Center, and in my school’s play, where I also played a pirate! I was thrilled when I got the opportunity to be a part of this show, and I would like to thank Marcus and my friend Kirsten for that.
Marcus Anthony
Writer/Director/Producer
Marcus is the creator behind several MN Fringe shows from past years including Medea Ex Machina, The Base, Yama & Kalindi, So Bright the Night, and Be Your Selflie, Orzel Rising, and Behemoth. Marcus' plays have been performed in Seattle, Chicago, and Manhattan. Find out more about Marcus and his company at HeyRube.org.
