Rajan Khatiwada
DirectorRajan Khatiwada is the Co-founder and Creative Director of Mandala Theatre, and one of Nepal’s most prominent figures in contemporary theatre. With over 25 years of professional experience, he has made a lasting impact as an actor, director, and theatre educator. Renowned for his work with children and youth, Khatiwada has played a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of Nepali theatre artists. He has performed in acclaimed productions such as Oedipus Rex, Kumari, Charandas Chor, Bagbhairav, and Maila Dot Com, and directed notable plays including Sunkeshari, Miss Julie, Antigone, Twelve Angry Men and, many more. Known for his ability to blend folklore with modern theatrical forms, his work uniquely reflects Nepal’s cultural narratives in contemporary settings. Khatiwada is also known for his extensive international collaborations, helping build a strong global network for Nepali theatre. Through Mandala Theatre, he has initiated some of the country’s most significant artistic programs, including Nepal’s biggest international theatre festival and a year-long residency training program for aspiring artists from across the nation. His efforts continue to create a common ground for both national and international artists, fostering a vibrant and inclusive theatre community in Nepal.
