I haven’t been on a theater stage since 1987 and couldn’t be more excited. It is also a joy and honor to be working with Patty, Dave, Dan, and Susan again, last time was college... Also nice to work with Todd for the first time. Of course, I want to thank my lovely wife Valerie for always supporting me, you are and always will be the best thing that has ever happened to me. I want to dedicate this performance to a shining star and great little actress, Libby Radecki. Love you and miss you girl, you are always in our hearts and the best example that it’s not the length of time on this earth, that determines a life well lived.

It is such an honor, and so much fun, to be back with my college theater buddies, David, Jeff, and Dan! And a shout out to Todd for bravely entering into this group. Thank you to David for pulling us together again. Love and gratitude to my 5 kids, who have always been my best audience. Love and oatmeal raisin cookies to Tom, the guy who always understands and applauds whatever superpower I decide to choose. XOXO

The last time I did this someone broke their back. Literally. Broke their back. So, I don’t think it’s with too much cock-eyed optimism that I’m excited to be a part of this endeavor…I mean, there’s probably no where to go but up? Right? The joy is the process and people, and the art follows. So, I’m excited to be a part of this unique world and look forward to where the journey takes us. Appreciation to all the important people- family and friends. And, in the end, most of all, and always, Nan.
Dan Lori (he/him)
Technical Director
Dan is excited to be working on a show again with his friends. He is the former production manager/technical director and sometimes designer and percussionist for Theatre de la Jeune Lune.
Susan Hellstrom (she/her)
Producer
Nancy Spangrud (she/her)
Design/House Manager
Nancy is happy to make the Fringe a family affair, working with her sister Susan and brother-in-law David. As the curator of our set pieces, Nancy enjoyed finding items at garage sales (and her basement). As our House Manager, Nancy looks forward to welcoming you to our show!
Anushka Strivastava (she/they)
Stage Manager
Anushka Srivastava is currently pursuing a BA in Stage Management at Pace University. She's always loved working on important, beautiful theatre and What I Should Have Said is no different. Thank you to everyone involved!"
David Hellstrom (he/him)
Writer/Director
David has always been a storyteller. Whether it was as a kid trying to explain why he couldn't get home in time for curfew, as a theatre major from St. Mary's University, as a teacher at the University of Minnesota, and now as the writer/director of this show. While David is excited to be involved with his first ever Fringe production, what is most memorable is working with old and good friends. And, since "What I Should Have Said" is a love story, David hopes his partner Susan knows that even though actors are saying the lines, they were always written for you.
More Information

Thank you for checking out our show!

We are completely excited to be in our first Fringe production!  We have been frequent audience members but are excited to go under the lights for the first time.  We think you will find the show "What I Should Have Said" to be true to it's subtitle: it is indeed a love story.  And like any love story we think you will see moments of sweetness, of chaos, of hilarity and of sadness or regret.

Here is the story of the show.  A man walks into a marriage counselor's office...alone.  He explains to the counselor that there have been times in his relationship when he acted in ways that he wishes he would have done differently.  The counselor helps him unpack some of the moments, about what was said, and about what perhaps he should have said (and done).  Welcome to a show about second chances, forgiveness, and above all love.

We hope you will enjoy watching the scenes about the relationship of Patty and Jeffrey - and perhaps you will see a few things that might remind you of some of your own love stories.

What are people saying about "What I Should Have Said?"
Well, nothing yet.  But check back to our Review Tab after our opening night on August 1st!   We can tell you a friend who watched one of our rhearsals said this.  "I laughed out loud.  I might have cried a little.  Was it better than Cats? Certainly if we ware talking about the movie."

Is there anything especially interesting about Peake Productions?

This might be our first Fringe show, but isn't the first time that this group has been together. In 1983 (yes, 1983) at Saint Mary's University, then student David Hellstrom wrote a musical called "A Life in the Day of Terrance James."  The college added it to their production season.  Jeff Radecki and Patty Hooley had main parts and it was designed by Dan Lori.  It had an extended run, it was really awesome and then all of us graduated and went about our lives.

Why do we tell you this?  Because now, 42 years later, we are getting the group back together again! David has written another script, Jeff and Patty are the main actors and Dan is our technical director for this Fringe Festival show.  You better come see it, because at this rate the next Peake Productions show will be in 2067!

Is there a story behind the name Peake Productions?

Yes there is.  Dr. Donald Peake was the Director of Theatre at Saint Mary's University for more thna 30 years.  Many of the people in this cast and crew were not only students of Dr Peake, or "Doc" as we called him, but were befriended and mentored by him long after graduation.  Donald passed away in 2012.  We miss him and honor his legacy by naming our company after him.

You might want to make it a Phoenix Theatre night!

The production of "What I Should Have Said" is happening at the Phoenix Theatre on 26th and Hennepin Avenue.  Previously the original home of Dudley Rigg's Brave New Workshop, the Phoenix is now run in partnership with the non-profit ArtsNest and has regular programming supporting emerging artists.  We think you'd love the place.  During the Fringe Festival we will be sharing the space with John Orenstein who is doing a musical tiled "Make America Gray Again!"  On most nights our shows are back-to-back on the Fringe grid.  So, come for one and enjoy two!
