Improv, but doesn't FEEL like improv

I had no idea this show was improvised! (Admittedly, I showed up a few minutes late, so maybe I missed that) That's really my only complaint; I was originally going to give the show 3 stars, but raised it to 4 after talking to the performers and realizing they improvised the whole thing. I thought for sure this was a scripted show, and by that standard, the show felt a little unrehearsed and sloppy. But now that I know it was all off the cuff? Beautiful. Especially Sergei, the "tech". His comedic timing was PERFECT.

Improv at its best

This show features some of the area’s best improv artists, and it shows! I laughed throughout but especially loved Tim as Sergei the tech and Jim as Greg the bumbling, anxious actor. They both created absurd, hysterical scenes such as Sergei climbing the walls in the background of a scene and Greg carefully removing nonexistent food when he served it at the wrong time.

Extremely well done and relatable!! The switches from the main stage to back stage were on point!

Improv without external ideas?

Creativity 4; Production Value 4; Interest (subjective) 3 When I think of improv, I think of the actors reacting to external ideas: from the audience, from a random draw, from (whatever). This was a little confusing, since we saw the fifth show, and it felt much more like a somewhat chaotic scripted show rather than improv. Was it really different every time? It was funny enough, but didn't feel like improv.

That's Tech Baybee!

It's got all the hits: a showmance, backseat directing, and an alarming attachment to a cut prop. I especially enjoyed Sergei and his very good foley work. I had some trouble following the cross-fades from onstage to backstage, but it felt truthful to the tech experience.

Top Tier Improv with a side of Pickleball

This show brings together some of the most talented improvisers in the Twin Cities to create a truly hilarious and immersive experience. If you’ve ever been part of a tech rehearsal, this will both trigger you and tickle you. I laughed so hard and everytime a glass breaking cue sounded, I laughed harder. It’s a don’t miss!

Wait, this was improv?

This show came highly recommended so I went to it. I never felt I was in an improv show, and I never stopped laughing and cringing remembering shows I did years ago that similar things happened in. This is delightful and well worth seeing!

Wait, it was improv?

Another audience member here who didn’t realize this was improv. It was hilarious start to finish, and clearly built on the structure of a disastrous tech rehearsal with an over-enthusiastic tech, a quirky performance space, and a cast and crew who are definitively not ok. Sergei was the standout. And I very much appreciate how much of the putative show they were able to give us through just constantly interrupted scene rehearsals.

By accident…

We had the most Fringe experience in the best way possible. We walked in expecting love is blind and stumbled into TECH. 30-minutes in we realized we weren’t seeing what we expected, but loved it. From the techniques to the production elements, simple yet intricate. Each character well developed and each story dynamic. The “fringe angel” was a wonderful surprise! Exquisite and an exciting adventure unfolded for us. The fringe gods led us this way and may they lead you. Love, Latin Papi

The Tech that goes wrong!

This takes every bad Tech Rehearsal story and spins comic, cringe-worthy fun. I kept on hearing in my head the voice saying "It's funny, because it's true."

Hysterical, relatable, such a strong improv team

Absolutely loved this show. Hardest I’ve laughed all fringe. A great great time. Really relatable if you are an actor, I thought 60 min of improvised script was really impressive. The song at the end I thought was beautiful, and Sergei was HYSTERICAL. Such a good format for a show. Loved every part of it. I thought it was odd two of the characters were in it for like 2.5 seconds, but I still enjoyed it.

Dramatic Jazz

Loved the trip this piece takes you on. The trope of a behind-the-scenes look at a failing performance is given a new varnish with magnificent improvisation. There is clearly a structure behind each scene, but the variations are endless. Call this piece dramatic jazz, but instead of horns wailing out a new scale, the Russian stage tech is wiping cheese puff crumbs off his shirt. Great fun and well done!

Improv next level

I am a big fan of improv Theatre, always have been. This cast brought improv to a whole new level where there was actual props and sound effects along with an improvised show. Top notch. Well done to the entire cast! Belly is busted!

Would’ve Been Tougher with Strike’s Old Tech Booth

As someone who’s been on both sides of the tech rehearsal glass I have the utmost respect for the Fringe Tech Wizards who have to fulfill the needs of so many shows. Normally every Fringe Tech Rehearsal goes perfectly, but “Tech” creates an alternate reality where one does not. Everything that could go wrong does and an All-Pro cast of improvisors finds the Jolly of every Folly. Director Mike Fotis handles every setback with Midwestern patience and always seems 1% away from a mega crash-out without ever actually having one (to be fair to the Tech Sergei, they should’ve given him more specific cues—he was just following his heart). Despite the chaos, a peaceful ending shows that as stressful as the process might be, eventually a piece can just go out there and be Art.

A gem of a fringe show, especially for people who know and love the Fringe. Expect to laugh, and laugh hard.

A great cast of improvisers bring you through their journey of Tech before their Fringe Show. Even though I sat on the floor due to a sold-out house, it was worth it. Always love seeing improv at Fringe!

Hilarious Improv

I had no idea this show is all improv until talking with the cast after and I have to say, I was blown away. Very impressive and hilarious moments between all the actors.
