Show: Hugo and Maeve Join A Cult!
Venue: Bryant Lake Bowl
Best Friends Yell at Each Other in a Closet
The script was great and CHOCK full of laughs, but the chemistry between Hugo and Maeve made this a truly delightful watch.
Company: Tristan Miller
Show: Least Likely To Succeed: Tales From A Midwestern Homeschooler
Venue: Bryant Lake Bowl
New Locally-Grown Fav
Maybe I’m just the exact target audience for Tristan’s brand of comedy, but I had an absolute blast at this show!! From the H-O-T-T-doo-doo-doo to the MidwestxNewZealand observational humor, this set made me feel “sentimentally ill” in the best kinda way.
Company: Broom Vroom Street Blartists
Show: Paul Blart 3: Blart of Darkness
Venue: Strike Theater
Till Death Do We Blart!!!
So fun, so silly, such a privilege to be a part of the last audience for this run of shows!! The playwright did an excellent job at filling in as the Administrator, Chloe and Aurora were a great mother/daughter duo, Ferocious was ferociously funny, the marauders (and Steve!!) were excellent, and the musical interludes were more than I could have asked for - seriously the music was a huge highlight that I was blindsided and delighted by. Overall, it so so glad I went to see this, and I may just have to journey to Madison, Wisconsin to see what else this playwright comes up with!!!!
Company: Vulva Va-Voom & Company
Show: TransMasculine Cabaret, Starring Vulva Va-Voom
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre
Transformative Experience
“What is the tone of this f*cking show!?” = a fair question and the moment I was absolutely hooked. I laughed really hard, I cried even harder. Having lived in liberal bubbles all my life, this show’s tone was a reminder that feeling safe and heard is a privilege even when it should be a right. This show was affirming of my own identity in a way I had never felt before, and I know Vulva will stick with me long after they’ve moved on to other states and audiences that need not just drag, but THIS drag.
Company: Theatre On The Rocks
Show: A Horse Walks Out Onto the Stage and Dies
Venue: Phoenix Theater
Funny, Heartfelt, Fringe
A truly amazing first fringe show that delivers on its title and so much more. I laughed, I cried, I imagined a horse absolutely slam dunking basketballs. Sam and his cast blew it out of the park with a great balance of humor and raw emotion. Sam’s improv skills shined when he interacted w the audience, and his writing skill punched me in the gut at every opportunity. A wonderful show from an artist that I can’t wait to see more of!!
Company: Melancholics Anonymous
Show: Beanie Baby Divorce Play
Venue: Open Eye Theatre
Another Banger. Another Banger from MA.
Humor, heart, polyethylene pellets - this show has it all! Amazing cast, great script, show-stealing physicality, and a visit from a beautiful purple princess. Grab your ticket quick, because they’re bound to fly off the shelves like beanie babies at the height of the craze!!
