So, Engaging
I just love when you a grab a show, that you wouldn't normally see. You have an open spot between two of your must see shows and it turns out to be fantastic. Wonderful storytelling, intriguing story that kept you on the edge of your seat. I definitely will keep an eye out for Derek Lee Miller, I want to see and hear more!
Company: Melancholics Anonymous
Show: Watership Down
Venue: Rarig Stoll Thrust Theatre
Wow, just wow
As always Melancholics Anonymous amazes me, this incredibly talented group of young people, are talents in so many ways. I was a little sad when i saw they were doing one of their clever fringe mashups - always a fringe highlight. But this is without a doubt one of the best things I have seen at the Fringe. Don't miss it and agree with so many, we need a full-length production!!
Company: New Endeavors
Show: Muskie
Venue: Mixed Blood
You will never go in the Water Again
Going to be honest I didn't know PBR was a thing in Minnesota, but I got my biggest laugh of the Fringe at the end of Muskie. Tight script, nicely done on connecting to source material, they never took a joke too far and the Muskie puppet was AMAZING. An entertaining and fun hour. Go see it!
Company: The Redmond Players
Show: That Was Shakespeare: A Revue
Venue: Rarig Kilburn Theatre
More Shakespeare!
I personally would have preferred more Shakespeare, less Gen Z, but then I am a barely boomer, so it’s probably me! This group of artists works hard to entertain and mostly hit the mark. It is an entertaining hour. Shout out to the young women doing Beatrice from Much a Do About Nothing, she was excellent. they get an extra .5 kitty just for her!
Company: Samuel Karie
Show: Pistachio's Playhouse
Venue: Barbara Barker Center for Dance
Big Heart
This was not what I was expecting. This was sweet at times, thoughtful and a little heartbreaking. I was kept guessing what would happen next in this 30-minute show. There was clearly a great deal of care and heart put in by these artists. I loved the set & Ms. Pistachio was gorgeous! Check it out.
Company: Sockpop
Show: 1 Hour Left to Live: A One Puppet Show by That Felt Good
Venue: The Southern Theater
3 for the Price of One!
Improv, Stand-up Comedy and Puppetry - Sit back and enjoy the ride. Super fun and lots of big laughs. Highly recommend.
Company: Jeffries & Brown
Show: Braingystics: Seize the Mind!
Venue: Open Eye Theatre
A Fun Ride
Braingystics is not the typical show I have on my fringe line up, but after seeing their 3-minute promo at the previews, it was added to the MUST SEE list. I rearranged my schedule and I do not regret it. This fast passed, non-stop show, is very funny. Peyton and Jerod have endless energy and are great performers. I just know you’ll love it!
Company: DOLLY WHO?
Show: DOOZY
Venue: Open Eye Theatre
Amazing Creativity
Part Mister Rogers, part Twilight Zone. The creativity of the set, the puppets and performances, made this a pure joy and delight to experience. I just love how at the fringe you are always seeing something unexpected and wonderful. That is what Doozy is. Open Eye is such a great venue, make your way over this Fringe season!
Company: Tiger Love Studios LLC
Show: The Choose Your Own Adventures of Turtle Boy
Venue: Mixed Blood
Get Ready to Cheer our Hero On
As a puppet nerd, I knew Choose Your Own Adventure with Turtle Boy would make this year’s fringe line up. But this went way beyond my expectations, to simply say this was an amazing performance or experience isn’t enough. I sat front and center and what Emmanuel does to bring Turtle Boy to life, is a “miracle”. Bring a friend, your family, come by yourself, be ready to cheer our hero and the adventure on. And if you wish, volunteer for a little hand to hand combat!!
