Writer and PerformerI have been performing Climate-themed spoken word comedy for the past 11 years. I was originally inspired upon seeing one scene in Bill McKibben's "Do the Math" tour, which humorously connected Keystone Beer with the Keystone XL pipeline. I have worked as an energy democracy organizer for the past 12 years which includes an ever evolving array of tasks on the same mission of making local renewable power and energy efficiency more accessible to a greater number in ways that double as housing and economic justice. Some projects include organizing dozens of community education events on the economics of our energy utility system, which I have turned into Energy Comedy as well. In my spare time, you can find me attending numerous public events with a network of positive change-makers from around the Twin Cities who provide me a good sense of belonging. I have also done a lot of my own writing on topics where sustainability and the social sciences intersect, and have occasionally gotten published. While much of my content from Cli-Mate 'Just' Us is fictional but allegorical, some of it is rooted in my real-life experiences and personal perceptions. This creative work of incorporating humor has been a way for me to process a wide array of emotions I feel, both about the climate crisis as well as the challenges of coming out while being on the autism spectrum. By creating a performance that unites 2 social circles of my life that often feel fragmented from each other, I am attempting to build a new community where the Climate Justice & LGBTQ rights movements can be of mutual benefit to each other. I am seeking to educate, enlighten and mobilize the necessary public interest in this very timely topic by adding entertainment value and making it relatable to audiences at a variety of emotional levels.

Unconventional Education, not Unconventional Fossil Fuels!
Slightly Longer Show Description
This several years-in-the-making spoken word comedy takes a timely & important topic makes it more humanized & emotionally relatable by working in the elements of love relationships. In addition, making this intersectional with LGBTQ+ liberation adds a whole new dimension of depth and originality.
Cli-Mate 'Just'-Us, impacts the audience on multiple levels of head and heart simultaneously. It is a creative balance that is stimulating both mentally and affectionately.
There will be a projected slideshow to help the audience visualize a series of strategically arranged word plays which fit carefully together like pieces of a puzzle (along with humorous signs from marches & protests)
The script won't have any adult language as in words you'd have to bleep off the radio and the slideshow won't have any nudity or images that you'd have to be 18 to purchase. But there will be references to some that are presented in a beautiful, funny or ironic manner rather than a crude one. (I wish I was provided with a different word choice to describe this sort of humor because crude is ironically also a fossil fuel term).
What's the meaning of the title with all those quotation marks and dashes?
Isolating the word 'mate' within the word climate with can only be acheived by 'breaking the ice' in justice and replacing it with 'us' . That is what anchors the main theme of connecting climate justice with loving partnership. The word just, however, can also best be interpreted as the socially just us rather than exclusively us. It involved taking different 2 topics that are seemingly unrelated and then drawing out profound connections between both... and generating humor from those with multiple “Aha” moments.
A topic this urgent deserves all the attention it can get and for that I deliver an entertainment value so intense that it is like trying to drink water from a firehose.
What is CLEAR Power Vision? - CLEAR is an acronym that stands for Clean, Local, Equitable, Affordable and Resilient. It is the type of power that I envision for our energy future.
