80’s kid and Madonna lover
Absolutely hilarious! Loved every minute of this show and easily would’ve watched another hour! Especially relatable if you grew up in the 70/80’s and LOVE Madonna and all things pop! Five 🐈⬛ s! Go to this show!!!
Charming and funny
I love it when people are passionate about something and they want to share that passion. Schommer’s zeal for Madonna — and where that zeal led him from his school days to the present — makes for a really enjoyable hour.
Well done one-person show
I'm not a particular fan of Madonna, but I enjoyed this show which was well performed. Nice use of slide projections.

Good Old Fashioned Queer Fun
I'm a gay child of the 80s who danced and screwed to Madonna. You don't have to love Madonna, have lived through the 80s are be gay, to love Jason Schommer and his giddy, joyous show of good old fashioned queer fun--not that new-fangled queer fun that leave me cold. I don't know what I'm saying, except to say, go see Jason's show and sit back and enjoy. He may inspire you, as he inspired me, to write your own show about your favorite female diva. Now I must dash and start writing my Joan Crawford show.
Delightful
I'm not a huge Madonna fan (Gaga stan, I'm a millennial) but I really enjoyed this show. Jason is a hilarious and fun storyteller and has such great energy. I had a blast, even if I was slightly too young/sheltered for a couple of the references.
Materially charming and funny
Jason is a good story teller and comic—well done!
Like a Prayer
Jason took us there! I love the small town boy conquers big ol’ world. Go to this show People!
Silly!
I wanted to know about the Bette Midler gays!
This show felt more like a cooky professor lecture than a Fringe Show but I still laughed and found the storytelling charming.
Hilarious and nostalgic
This was a delightful show - a trip back in time through the 80s, as the audience relives highlights and parallels from the playwright's life and that of Madonnas. Jason Schommer is hilarious and extremely likable. Don't miss this one!
Best of Show of MN Fringe '24!
I absolutely loved this show, and Jason's comedic ways of reminding us of useless, but funny, 1980s factoids that I had forgotten about. What really shines through is his love for Madonna reminding all of us why she still is a Queen!
Schommer’s shows are always full of laughs
Ray of Light!
This delightful one man show highlights the relationship between fan and star and the power of believing in yourself. Schommer brings light and levity through delightful storytelling and hilarious photos from his real life. I laughed out loud from start to finish and it was a delightful homage to an iconic star and the gay boy who loves her.
Amazing show
This is a great lighthearted show that will make you laugh. Through Jason’s crazy stories of Madonna he ends up telling us to be ourselves and not to care what others think. Go see this if you want to feel good about yourself and the world around you.
The Material Girl Would Love This!
This show is a bodacious work of art. You don't even have to love Madonna or the 80s to appreciate this ride. In true Jason Schommer fashion (that's Schommer with a C, thank you), Jason gives the audience everything they came for and more. His fantabulous delivery was a mix of Ted-Talk and storytelling. At times it felt like he was informally telling a group of friends about the events in his life that led to his MAGestic encounters. And then BAMB he'd land a joke, and we were gleefully reminded he's a professional stand-up comedian. Thanks, Jason, for including a nod to Louie Anderson. I loved how "into" the show the audience was and how Jason included the audience and played off of their energy and comments. It only made us love Jason and this show more. Bravo, Schommie!
Hilarious and emotionally deeper than I expected
This show was on my must-see short list because I've enjoyed Jason Schommer several times as a host of the Twin Cities Moth shows, so I was excited to see what he'd do with a full hour solo. Wow! The hilarious anecdotes just kept coming. His exceptional rapport with the audience felt entirely natural. As a professional stand-up comic, he has great timing and very expressive delivery. My pre-show attitude toward Madonna was neutral or maybe mildly positive, but Jason made me understand and genuinely appreciate the extreme joy people get from obsessing over celebrities. I'm grateful he shared both his and her amazing talents with us!

"A Material Boy Living In A Madonna World!" is a hilarious comedy by comedian / storyteller Jason Schommer (MN Fringe "!992: Mistakes Were Made!" in 2023 and "Curtain Call: Letters to My Friend Louie Anderson!" in 2022), that explores the outrageous moments of Madonna's wild career and the life lessons learned as seen through the eyes of a super fan!
This show is a hysterical and unexpected look at the pop culture diva's lifetime of sucesses, failures, controversies and what I, as a super fan, have learned and applied to my own life. This show is not only quite funny, it has a lot of heart. True stories from my life with Madonna's career as a backdrop. It is about pop culutre, celebrity fandom, chasing your dreams, discovering who you are, and living a life with absolutely no regrets (hopefully)...all inspired by an internation superstar from Michigan.
