ABOUT THE PLAY
The Scab & The Opossum
Scab for Hire begins with a man in the 1930's who accidentally crosses a picket-line and starts working alone in a corrugated box factory. From then on, he is known simply as 'the Scab'. The only thing keeping the Scab company is the voice of his boss who occasionally offers him a pizza party if he completes his work on time. That is, until, he befriends an opossum who is living in the factory. They dance together, eat pizza, and tell each other bedtime stories. It seems too good to be true! That's because it is... Once the boss learns of the opossums activities in the factory, he forces the Scab to make a decision. Does he adhere to the boss's demands and get rid of the 'contaminent' or does he save his friend's life?
Liliana Garza & Tyler Bloom
The second part of the play takes place 90 years later, in the year 2026. Liliana Garza is host of a podcast with a modest following called The History Files. She explores important subjects in American history that may have been forgotten to time. In this live podcast episode, she is joined by right wing political influencer and podcaster, Tyler Bloom, to discuss the significance of the Scab's story on American history. Each have wildly different views on the topic which leads to a heated discussion on-stage and off. While they have such different opinions on the Scab and his place in history, both of them are missing a key element of the story that prevents each of them from truly understanding the Scab's motivations.
