Analog!

The solo show is a fringe staple but this one is very very different. On its face its Kevin sharing his love of a process that many of us should be more familiar with...or at least many of us of a certain age. Like I remember picking up prints! Should know what that actually means in the process. Really though its a really lovely meditation on what is gained and lost as technology moves forward. What happens when we slow down and look at the world around us and how nothing is a binary and there is room for both going forward. If you wanna spend an hour thinking about film and ANOTHER hour thinking about what kind of art YOU make and what tactile experiences and tasks you choose to undertake...see this show. This show inspires introspection, nostalgia and just a "that's so F**king cool" feelings. Highly recommend.

Can't box her in

Allison Vincent is a masterful performer. She managed to reach in and poke at every single one of my open wounds - and I would pay her to do it again! You can't fault her for making you feel all kinds of difficult things when she does it just so darn well. I'd watch her read names out of a phone book. Allison approaches the topics with warmth, humor and vulnerability. Being the caretaker is no easy path - and largely because navigating the system is so f**king hard; it's lonely, embarrassing, and funny....so thanks for telling this story.

define fringe?

Most often when people think of fringe something like this show comes to mind. They're not wrong...obviously this show exists. The performances are all excellent - the cast has fully bought into the world they've created. There's no wink and nods to the audience saying "hey isn't this weird?!"...and that kind of honesty is charming and hold the whole thing together. Its funny, with just a pinch of a heart and a wacky enough plot that you'll wonder where the hour went.

stunning

There were a lot of really smart choices made here and the detail and beautiful specificity in this show are just....*chefs kiss*. Made all the more impressive to know that he got in relatively last minute. The schtick in the tub - his "Tony Stark" - that just was so precise and clean. It could easily have been a throw away but it infused a static moment with energy and movement even while the lights focused and he sat in one place. That detail echoes throughout the piece. The vulnerability of the text, the performance was clean, nuanced. Shows about the worst moments in your life are not uncommon at fringe, I've sat through some good ones and some bad ones over the years, and this one falls in the excellent category.

twist on a classic

Let's start with I don't usually enjoy dance - and I like to use fringe to see dance to help push me out of my comfort zone. So when I say I liked this more than most dance pieces its genuine. It was refreshing to see alternative bodies and not just slim dancer bodies (although they also moved beautifully)- to get to see what movement can look like when its not the "norm" was pleasing. The music levels were excellent (I know weird shout out but like kudos on that front). While it wasn't the most polished of pieces...that just added to the vulernability and charm the show had. It allowed for more emotion to permeate the show.

Twists and turns

This was the best kind of show. It was one thing until and it wasn't...and both parts of that were satisfying. The horse was incredibly charismatic and charming. I felt a strong urge to hold his hoof near the end there. Gallop don't walk to this show.

Starts and ends with joy

This show starts joyfully and ends with more joy- its got some beautiful moments in between. It was clear these performers not only are talented movers/dancers but trust each other. The undulating walking path created with their hands, shoulders and backs was stunning. There were some incredible solos/duos. The explosion of cereal felt a like a release of the "right way to do something". I
