Allison is a great talent i loved her performances in 5x5 at the Fringe and with Four Humors theatre. Daddy issues is a classic. An incredible emotional and entertaining rendering of life passages and transitions. Definitely worth seeing.

Without a doubt, the most moving performance of Fringe 2024. Personal tale of losing one's father shared with humor and insight. Audience members on either side of me were brought to tears at various moments. Simply incredible. Your father is proud.

The One Person Show To See

I don't normally love going to fringe for solo performances. This blew me away. The ability to entertain with a solo show in a festival with unlimited options is remarkable, and this is a must-see. Please make the time to witness Allison's storytelling.

Emotional and Captivating

This solo slow was captivating from start to end. What I loved mostly about this show that the topic matter was difficult but we were able to laugh from start to finish. I thought the set, sound, and lights were used extremely well during this production. Grief sucks and I loved how Allison was able to capture it on stage. This is a show that should not be missed!

One of my rare "5" ratings

Yes, there are content warnings, but this is also a very sweet and sometimes funny piece. We had only gone after seeing Allison in 5X5 and figured that while the description of Daddy Issues might not be 100% our thing, we definitely wanted to see her again. And we are so glad we went. The piece moves fast over time and place, the cardboard scenery is so well done, and Allision takes us through her journey masterfully. I don't give a ton of "5" ratings, but this one is worth it for sure.

Heartfelt, Cathartic Show

Allison Vincent is a wonderful performer and now I discover that she's a great writer as well. I can't imagine being so authentic and candid about my difficult relationship with my late father, yet she carries it off with seeming ease. If there was a dry eye in the house at this show, it wasn't mine. I can't recommend this show enough.

Don't Miss This Show

Make time to see Allison Vincent's “Daddy Issues”. She is one of our best performers in town, and this intimate look into her relationship with her father, is hilarious, heartbreaking, and inspiring. And can I just say, an amazing use of cardboard for all the sets and props.

Not even too heavy.

As someone who also uses that exact Proof monologue for personal reasons, I was prepared to cry or not be totally ok going in, but immediately warmed up to Allison's humor, charm, honesty, and connection to the audience throughout. I can't imagine the editing that went into this script as it had such clear and structured communication and expression without being excessive or pedantic (even when critiquing our medical system!). Grateful for Allison's vulnerability and craft on a personal, political, and creative level.

I'm not crying! You're crying!

Allison opens up about her vacillating relationships with her dad though her life, with humor and candid feelings all out on display. A simple cardboard set quickly comes to life as Allison tells her story, engages the audience, and speaks honestly about how it can feel to become a caretaker of a parent.

Funny and heartbreaking, I was blown away by Allison's incredible writing and performing. Very cleverly staged and the use of cardboard as props and set pieces was super impressive. I can't recommend this show enough!

Vincent is amazing in this gorgeous work.

From the cardboard scenery & props to the text to the performance, this show is stellar. A really gorgeous piece — so full of heart. A perfect amount of humor, too. Allison is just incredibly talented.

I’m laughing? I’m crying? I’m laughing and crying

Wow this show far exceeded my expectations (and my expectations were pretty high after it was recommended to me by multiple people). I was captivated by Allison’s performance for the full hour, which is a rare feat for me in a one person show. I felt so many things and was so thankful for the well timed comedic relief. You really don’t want to miss this one!

This show made my heart feel full. A grim topic on paper, but Alisson’s storytelling was so much more than that - open, funny, and gripping the whole way through.

Universal in the Particular

Allison is an actor’s actor and a storyteller’s storyteller. She has absolute command of her craft and the tale she weaves is profoundly moving and studded with humor, wit and beauty. She achieves the ultimate goal of a personal narrative solo show: the universal in the particular. I know of what I speak. I’m also a solo show storyteller with the same yet completely different daddy issues that compelled me to create a solo show about it. Daddy Issues is a must see for anyone who has a father dead or alive.

Rule #1: Always See Anything With Allison

Allison is one of the artists I *ALWAYS* seek out at Fringe. She makes everything amazing. As other reviews have said so eloquently, she takes this difficult and very personal story and still manages to make us laugh. I had some of the same challenge with my mother and I love that she includes resources in case you find yourself dealing with these types of issues.

Such a gift

Simple, versatile sets that transformed the space. A beautiful exploration of love and alienation and loss and repair. If they were going to write a book about how to be a human, i would want this show to be in it.

Emotional Rollercoaster Ride of Love.

Allison Vincent is amazing! She weaves this very personal story with wit and charm blended with shock and horror, from highly steeped daddy issues to genuine love. The audience gets a glimpse into what it might be like to have Ms. Vincent as a favorite high school teacher. She is also the estranged daughter called upon to take care of her dying father. Transitions between characters and scenes are seamless. Music and other cues are brilliant. See this show on Saturday at 4 pm for the first and/or another time. Daddy Issues is a wonderful homage to those who are dying and those left to grieve. Stunning. Beautiful. Moving. Memorable.

Allison is a talent the twin cities must treasure

What can't this woman do! I've seen Allison in many shows, but never a solo show that was written by her, and yet her show was as professional and polished as everything else she's done. The story is so well told with lots of heart and vulnerability, with enough humor to take care of the audience. I appreciate stories of caring for parents and the resources she shared. What a superwoman Allison is.

"So this is good acting."

I literally thought to myself, "Wow. So this is what good acting looks like," as this show was being performed. The character work was fantastic! The content and vulnerability was brave and I even loved the use of cardboard! The whole thing worked for me!

An updated show well worth seeing

Even though I had seen an earlier version of this piece through Pillsbury House's Naked Stages program, it felt new and fresh. Anyone who has watched their parents decline as they age (or anyone who has parents, older friends, etc.) would find this show moving. Even the audience participation was worthwhile (and I'm usually the last person to say that).

A beautiful, gentle tribute

Daddy Issues is one of those shows that feels like the hug you need in the moment when you didn’t know you needed it. Watching Allison navigate time and space in such a seamless and elegant way was a true pleasure and furthered my belief that she is one of the most gifted storytellers in the Fringe— and in our time. I was moved to both tears and laughter and suggest this show with the highest recommendation.

must-see!

this was an absolutely beautiful piece, balancing a story of deep personal pain and loss with love and the unconquerable human desire for a big ol’ belly laugh even in the most difficult circumstances. It’s clearly a cathartic and healing experience to perform, which makes it equally effective to witness. It spoke a lot to my own relationships with my family and it was clear to spoke to many others in the audience too.

Handled With Care

“Daddy Issues” by the very talented Allison Vincent is the third Fringe solo I’ve seen this year involving a complicated paternal relationship; though this one differs by painting a picture of the father that isn’t completely antagonistic. Vincent deploys several great chance of paces including a fun audition participation bit. A lovely set is made of cardboard boxes, likely a reference to the father’s hoarding habit and putting those things away. I’ve never noticed before how beautiful cardboard looks when hit by certain lighting arrangements.

This is Why We Have Fringe

One woman shows are hard to pull off. One woman shows about your personal life are really hard to pull off. You have to be engaging enough for the audience of strangers to be invested, be inventive enough to craft and condense your life into a cohesive narrative, and talented enough to be believable within the confines of a theatrical space. Luckily here Allison Vincent excels in all three of those things. The balance between humor , insight, and raw emotion is the perfect blend. The structure shifts enough to keep your attention and never lingers too long on any one thing. I was truly moved as it had me facing my own complicated feelings towards love and loss of family. GO! SEE! THIS! Also, the set being primarily made of cardboard boxes and she literally unpacks her feelings- brilliant.

Allison is Awesome!

Having recently read Atul Gawande's "Being Mortal" and having aging parents, I have strong feelings about end-of-life care. The more we talk about it, the more we prepare for it, the more we are able to manage it. But we can never really know it until we experience it. Allison is immensely kind to her audience by positioning our capitalist healthcare system as a barrier to proper care ('cause of course it is and it's something you need to be prepared for) and providing resources in her program. No one should be left out in the cold in these situations, and her tale is so touching, personal, and insightful that you can't help but be better off having seen it.

Allison Nailed It.

Boy! did this story by Allison ever hit the nail on the head. I had similar experience with my Father and his decline into dementia and eventual death. She captured ALL the emotions of a topsy-turvey, nonsensical, healthcare mess that we have created. ALL the emotions of a relationship gone bad as a result of dementia. All the frustration of falling down into the rabbit hole of forms, documents, and assessments that meant nothing. Allison had us laughing and crying. Great production. Thanks.

Can't box her in

Allison Vincent is a masterful performer. She managed to reach in and poke at every single one of my open wounds - and I would pay her to do it again! You can't fault her for making you feel all kinds of difficult things when she does it just so darn well. I'd watch her read names out of a phone book. Allison approaches the topics with warmth, humor and vulnerability. Being the caretaker is no easy path - and largely because navigating the system is so f**king hard; it's lonely, embarrassing, and funny....so thanks for telling this story.

One Person Show Perfection

Allison Vincent owns the stage for an hour. A one-person approach with a cardboard set relies on the performance, which is given with a perfect moment-to-moment flow. It feels as if I saw a lot more than a one-hour story of a person's life experience with her father.
