Show: They Still Make Film For That?
Venue: Strike Theater

A photo finish!

Kevin exposed a LOT about photography. There were props, cue cards, and funny asides. Everything to love in a Fringe show. Totally Fringe-worthy.

Company: The Project Factory
Show: Pants on Fire
Venue: HUGE Improv Theater

Good improv

Fun to watch such good collaboration. I particularly enjoyed "playing along" and trying to determine which stories were truths or lies...

Company: TROMPE L'OEIL
Show: Gasthaus
Venue: Phoenix Theater

Achtung!

Fun, well-performed fictional play based upon a real-life site. The cast & crew's ability to create and execute what felt like a fully-developed full-length theater piece within the constraints of Fringe time and venue was simply superb.

Company: The Miller Conspiracy
Show: The Banana Wars
Venue: Phoenix Theater

Awesome edutainment

Wonderful to learn more about why we are where we are and the people that made it so -- and the loss we experience as a consequence of monocultures. Flawless sharing by a real talent. I will be adding Derek to my list of "must catch" Fringe performers.

Company: Pretend Productions
Show: Daddy Issues
Venue: Phoenix Theater

Unforgettable trials & tribute

Without a doubt, the most moving performance of Fringe 2024. Personal tale of losing one's father shared with humor and insight. Audience members on either side of me were brought to tears at various moments. Simply incredible. Your father is proud.

Company: an alleged Theatre Company
Show: A First-Class Comedic Revue… Featuring the Reanimated Corpse of a Wright Brother
Venue: Phoenix Theater

Campy fun

Always interesting to be able to catch a troupe doing what they love. Silly & fun.

Company: Victoria Montalbano
Show: The Princess Strikes Back: One Woman's Search for the Space Cowboy of her Dreams
Venue: Open Eye Theatre

High voltage

Victoria "brought it" at a weeknight 10:00 performance. It's challenging to be solo at a sub half-house crowd and she was the utmost professional -- beautifully forthright in sharing her experiences. Cherry pie is forever changed in my mind. Catch this show.

Company: Jamie Brickhouse
Show: I Favor My Daddy: A Tale of Two Sissies
Venue: Open Eye Theatre

Fabulous

Family dynamics and personal history area always interesting fodder for a performance. Add talent for the telling and you have a show like the one Jamie offers. Simply fabulous

Company: Alex Church
Show: Dutch: Made in America
Venue: Open Eye Theatre

Absolutely incredible performances

Both actors nailed it. And the script, so crisp. Flawless.

Company: Linnea Bond
Show: Heart Ripped Out Twice And So Can You!
Venue: Barbara Barker Center for Dance

Go on a journey

A love's lost story intertwined with dramatic telling of personal medical ordeals. Shared with humor and heart by an amazing talent. Writing was spot on + her timing & expressions? Perfection. And oh, may I mention -- oh my, the props...!

Company: Martin Dockery
Show: Martin Dockery: TRUTH
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Tale spinning

Enjoyable. Ever the Martin Dockery fan, I am familiar with the performer and his talent for spinning a tale. The telling and content of this year's stories lacked the nuance and suspense of previous years' masterpieces but his delivery was still as top notch as ever.

Company: Majhuwa Bagar Jana Kala Manch
Show: Tragedy of Maila Kami
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Context?

Interested in the subject matter, I added this show to my schedule but ending up leaving more confused than before it started. The physical movement/dancing was fluid and entrancing but the "stories" were very difficult to follow. Lacking understandable context (as a previous reviewer noted, only a portion of the dialog was in English), I found it challenging to emphathize with the performer's perspective and become a better champion.
